Seat covers for your vehicle are not just about looks, but they also protect your seats from dirt, spillages, dust, and even UV damage, which our vehicles endure on a daily basis.
One of the leading manufacturers of seat covers is Covercraft, who make custom-fitting covers to protect your pick-up or SUV seats from children, pets, muddy shoes and bags, or simply the wear and tear of daily life.
Today we’re going to be reviewing Covercraft’s SeatSaver covers, assessing how well they hold up in terms of durability, effectiveness, fit – and of course – how much bang you get for your buck…
Covercraft industries were founded in Southern California in 1965 and are now headquartered in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
They create both interior and exterior covers to help people protect their much-loved vehicles – from cars to RVs to aircraft – and most of their products are made-to-order and hand-crafted by professionals to allow you to achieve the closest fit possible for your vehicle.
Whilst Covercraft offers a range of different materials for their custom-fit covers, today we’re going to focus on their Polycotton SeatSavers variation. These covers are crafted from a heavy-duty, polycotton blend chosen for its durability and comfort.
They’re also water-resistant, as they’re coated with a Durable Water Repellency to protect against spillages and liquids, making them ideal for families with children or pets.
They’re available in a choice of seven colors and are custom-made for your specific year, make and model, and the price includes headrest and armrest covers too, should you need them.
So, in order to get a better idea of Covercraft’s SeatSavers, and whether or not they’re a good fit for you, let’s take a closer look at their stand-out features…
Covercraft’s seat savers are constructed from heavy-duty polycotton, which is available in seven different colors. Polycotton is a blend of natural cotton and synthetic polyester, and usually features a ratio of around 65% cotton and 35% polyester.
Polycotton has a range of benefits: the polyester in the mix makes the fabric stronger, more customizable, and more versatile, and it also dries faster than 100% cotton.
At the same time, having a mixture of cotton allows you to retain the softness and comfort of the natural fibers, as 100% polyester sticks to the skin and can be uncomfortable. The blend of the two fabrics allows skin and seats to breathe and ensures maximum comfort.
Protection and Durability
The polyester mix is what provides the SeatSavers with that extra durability, and these covers are heavy-duty to ensure maximum protection.
They’re coated with a Durable Water Repellency agent for complete spill protection, making them ideal for muddy pets or messy children, and this barrier ensures liquids never penetrate the fabric to reach the seat.
The SeatSaver becomes the first line of defense, which also makes them ideal if you cart greasy tools around for work, or for lining the seats of your RV.
They also offer protection against the sun, and these are a great solution if you worry about your seats fading or getting damaged by UV rays.
CoverCraft SeatSavers are constructed by professionals and matched to precision patterns, therefore the seams are overlapped and double-stitched for maximum durability, so you needn’t worry about tears and rips.
SeatSavers are designed to fit a 40/20/40 bench with adjustable headrest but will be custom patterned to fit your pick-up or SUV with a tailored-fit, so you needn’t worry about a poor fit as with generic seat covers.
Simply enter the year, make, and model of your vehicle to check if the covers will fit.
You’ll also get headrest and armrest covers included in your order if your vehicle has these.
SeatSavers offer a design that is sleek and modern, yet simple and free from unnecessary features or details.
In terms of how they look when installed, this is largely dependent on Covercraft’s custom-fit, which improves the overall look of the seat covers as there’s less bagginess, and you achieve a fit that looks more like the seat itself.
We also like that these come in a range of colors intended to reflect your vehicle’s original seats. This again allows you to achieve a more natural look, for example, if your car has light seats “tan”, “taupe” or “sand” may be ideal, or for a darker look “black” or “navy” may be more your thing.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that light colors will show up marks and stains more easily, meaning you may have to wash them more frequently – particularly if you have kids or pets.
SeatSavers couldn’t be easier to care for.
Whereas some fabrics don’t wash easily or are difficult to clean, the polycotton fabric washes perfectly in your home washer and can be dried in a dryer too, offering ultimate convenience.
Simply remove the covers, throw them in the washer, and once they’re dry, simply reinstall them and you’re good to go.
We’ll be honest. Covercraft aren’t the cheapest option, and you could get a cheap car seat cover for twenty bucks if you wanted to. However, SeatSavers differ from generic seat covers in several ways.
Firstly, Covercraft provides a custom-fit for your vehicle, and you won’t get this with other brands. This means you won’t get an overly tight or loose fit as with a one-size-fits-all cover, which is unlikely to take into account the specific features of your vehicle.
As well as this, the low-end seat covers are going to be cheaply made, often out of polyester so they’ll feel sticky and tacky against the skin, and won’t provide necessary ventilation for both you and your seats.
You should also consider how quickly cheaper covers will wear out, particularly if the stitching is poor. Despite the higher cost of SeatSavers, they’re highly durable and heavy-duty, so will pay for themselves over time, as you’ll protect your seats for years to come.
Installing your SeatSavers is quick and easy, and CoverCraft provides an extensive step-by-step guide here. Before you go ahead and install, here are some points to bear in mind:
Be mindful of the contour of the seat back and cushions, including any separate headrest and/or armrest covers. Some sets may come with additional headrest covers to accommodate optional-sized headrests.
Look out for the cutouts for seat adjustment levers and buttons, shoulder harness retaining brackets, and stationary seat belt harnesses, these ensure your covers still allow you to access these features.
There will also be hook and loop attachments on elastic straps sewn onto the underside of the bottom cushion.
Be sure that no hook and loop attachments are connected to other pieces before starting the installation.
We know that it can be difficult to take all this information in, so to make things easier for you, we’ve made lists of what we liked – and disliked – about Covercraft’s SeatSavers…
What we liked
The custom-fit design: this allows you to achieve a perfect fit, rather than gambling on a “universal” fit, which may not have the cut-outs for your vehicle’s specific features.
The fabric: the polycotton fabric provides the best of both worlds; you get the durability of polyester, and the comfort of cotton.
The protection: worried about spillages? Muddy pups? Kids? Fear not. SeatSavers are coated with Durable Water Repellency to prevent liquids from reaching your seats.
The easy maintenance: When your seat covers get dirty, you needn’t fret over spot-cleaning or dry-cleaning, simply remove your SeatSavers and chuck them in your home washer and dryer for simple, hassle-free cleaning.
The choice of colors: SeatSavers come in multiple colors so you can match your covers with the vehicle’s original seats, whether black, tan, navy, or gray.
What we disliked
The price: They’re slightly more expensive than we’d like, but we understand that this is because of the custom-fit design, which is why they vary in price so much compared to the cheaper seat covers on the market.
- Crafted from heavy-duty polycotton blend for durability and comfort
- Custom-made for your specific year, make and model seats
- Coated with a Durable Water Repellency agent for complete spill protection . Easy to install, washer and dryer friendly
- Headrest and armrest covers are also included (if equipped)
- Rear 60/40 bench with adjustable headrest; with console with cup-holder
We’re definitely impressed by Covercraft’s custom-fit design, which fits a range of SUVs and pick-ups. This means that they take into account the shape and contours of your seats, as well as specific features of the vehicle model such as head or arm rests.
The polycotton fabric is highly durable and protects your seats against mud, water, dirt, dust, and sun.
The Durable Water Repellency acts like a protective barrier against liquids, ensuring they don’t penetrate the fabric and cause damage to the seats. This makes SeatSavers perfect for anyone who worries about the mess caused by kids, pets, or work tools.
Another key factor we really like about SeatSavers is their convenience. They take minutes to install and remove, and they can be washed and dried in your home washer and dryer, meaning you can have them removed, cleaned, and reinstalled, in a matter of hours.
Like we said above, these are a bit of an investment, but the price is worth paying for the protection SeatSavers provide, and their tough durability which will keep your seats dry and clean from the wear and tear of everyday life.
